Today, on October 3, 2023, the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC), in collaboration with the Council of Non-Governmental Organizations (NACONGO), is hosting a meeting to discuss the taxation status for non-governmental and non-profit organizations. This meeting is part of the National Non-Governmental Organizations Forum that commenced today and will conclude on October 5, 2023.

The meeting has brought together directors of over 200 CSOs and various government leaders to collectively discuss existing challenges and find solutions.The Guest of Honor at the meeting is Hon. William Mhoja, Commissioner of Financial Analysis, representing the Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba.

Other special guests include the Board of Non-Governmental Organizations, Mwantumu Mahiza, the NGO Registrar, Vicknes Mayao; NCONGO Chairperson Dr. Lilian Badi; Representative of the TRA Commissioner, Mr. Matternus Mallya; Registrar of Non-Governmental Organizations in Uganda, Stephen Okoro, and development partners such as the European Union (EU) and leaders from various organizations.

The meeting will also serve to launch a report on the Taxation Status for Non-Governmental and Non-Profit Organizations.Furthermore, this forum will validate the Taxation Guidelines for non-governmental organizations, which THRDC and TRA have been improving annually in accordance with changes in tax laws.
