From 24–27 August 2026, the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC), represented by its National Coordinator, Adv. Onesmo Olengurumwa, and Head of Protection Programs, Adv. Paul Kisabo, participated in the Weaving Resilience Community Convening held in Nairobi, Kenya.The convening brought together civil society leaders, organisations and partners from across the Global South to reflect on the journey of the Weaving Resilience initiative, exchange experiences and lessons, strengthen connections, and explore approaches for sustaining resilient civil society organisations and institutions.

Weaving Resilience is a Ford Foundation initiative designed to strengthen civil society organisations in the Global South. The initiative focuses particularly on three interconnected dimensions of resilience: institutional resilience, strategic relevance, and the holistic well-being of people working within civil society. It promotes locally driven solutions and peer-to-peer learning, recognising the knowledge, leadership and lived experiences of organisations working within the Global South.

For THRDC, the Nairobi convening provided an important opportunity to share experiences from Tanzania, learn from organisations working in different contexts, and reflect on approaches to strengthening organisational resilience, sustainability, leadership, and the well-being and security of human rights defenders.

The gathering also provided an important moment for the Weaving Resilience community to reflect on the progress, relationships and lessons developed through the initiative and to consider how the networks, knowledge and practices built through the programme can continue contributing to a stronger and more sustainable civil society beyond the current initiative.

THRDC remains committed to strengthening a resilient human rights sector in Tanzania and enhancing collaboration, learning and solidarity among civil society organisations across Africa and the wider Global South.
