The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) is conducting a colloquium for human right lawyers to discuss the legal challenges faced by human rights defenders (HRDs) in custody of law enforcement and the judicial system. The colloquium is held at Cate Hotels in Morogoro from 22nd to 23rd September 2023.
Discussions will look at issues including harassment, intimidation, and handling process of human rights defenders in Police stations, conditions and treatment of human rights defenders in courts, prisons. The colloquium will also discuss the role of human rights advocates in defending and supporting human rights defenders, strategies to enhance legal protections for human rights defenders in Tanzania
The colloquium consists of presentations, plenary discussion and interactive sessions. The colloquium brings together practicing human rights advocates, human rights activists, representatives from human rights organizations. The colloquium sessions incorporate expert presentations, case studies, and interactive dialogues to promote knowledge-sharing and collaboration among human rights advocates.
